BIC South Africa – 8.5 Million Pens Donated and Counting…

The Major Back to School period sees South African parents flocking to Retail stores to purchase Stationery, ensuring their children are equipped with the right tools to power their potential. However, for many underprivileged parents and children, this period can bring about a large amount of anxiety, as many go without the most of basic tools, such as pens.

To advocate for educational opportunities for a better future for all children, BIC South Africa developed it’s CSR ‘Buy a Pen, Donate a Pen’ programme. BIC South Africa donates a pen to a disadvantaged child each time a BIC Stationery product with the ‘Buy a Pen, Donate a Pen’ sticker is purchased during the Major Back to School period which runs from Jan to March every year.

BIC South Africa has donated 8.5 million pens to underprivileged children in South Africa from 2011 to 2018.

BIC South Africa partners with Educational NGO’s, the Read Foundation and Brainwave, who distribute the pens to lesser resourced schools throughout the country. The Stationery Marketing Team visited 5 schools in Johannesburg and donated 10 000 pens and pencils worth R30 000 to each school. This concluded the 1.2 million pens donated for the CSR programme for 2018. The team personally delivered the pens, spent time at the schools and interacted with students, principals and teachers. The students were entertained by the BIC Power Their Potential School Roadshow play with BIC Boy being the main highlight that all students enjoyed.

Our ambition is to donate a total of 10 million pens by the end of 2019!
